Muay Thai, or Thai boxing, is the most popular spectator sport in Thailand. It is not quite the same as Western boxing, as participants use elbows, feet and knees, as well as fists to strike blows. An evening consists of a number of bouts, starting with the younger, more inexperienced fighters, and moving up through the ranks to the senior fighters. The atmosphere during a match is electric.
There are two stadiums on Lanta, with fights on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights.
Lessons can also be taken for those brave enough to try their hand at this energetic sport – it is a great way to stay (or get) fit.
